During consultation, Debt Counsellor verifies your budget and existing debt commitments. New budget will be agreed on and amount available for debt repayment will be determined. Debt Review application will therefore be generated for your signature.

Step Four

Debt Counsellor will contact your Credit Providers and credit bureaus to verify your debt. Proposals will be submitted to all credit providers then Debt Counselor will finalise negotiations.

Step Five

A consent order will be obtained from magistrate court if credit providers accept proposal. If credit providers do not accept proposal, the proposal will be submitted to a magistrate for a decision.

Step Six

Final repayment plan will be provided by Debt Counsellor and this payment plan will be submitted to a payment Distribution Agency (PDA). The PDA handles all payments to the credit providers on a monthly basis until your debt is completely repaid. You have the option to handle the repayments yourself, which will save you additional costs for the PDA services.

Debt Counseling is not an option if you do not have money to make repayments of debts; When receiving debt counseling, you must make payments every month from the first month you apply; If you fail to pay fees or repayments on time, the process will be cancelled and Credit providers will be able to commence with legal action; During your debt review period, you will be listed on the Credit Bureau as being under debt review and therefore you will not be able to take on new debt; Once Debt has been repaid, you will be issued with a clearance certificate and the Credit Bureau will be instructed to expunge the debt counseling notation from your record. All records that you were under debt counseling will be removed within 5 working days, and once this process is completed, you should be able to access responsible debt if required.
