Regional External Affairs Manager : Cape Town : Chemical / Petrochemical

Location: Cape Town (with regular travel within the Region and some travel to London) Job Purpose: The Regional External Affairs Manager is responsible for supporting the Regional Business Manager (RBM) and the Vice President External Affairs in ensuring the successful execution of the regional Communications and External Affairs remit (including political risk management public policy and social performance). This will also include ensuring that strategies and processes adopted by the respective Business Units within the Region are aligned with Company Oil s External Affairs strategy and in support of business priorities. This role will include providing clear visibility tracking and reporting to the RBM and the VP External Affairs of political risks stakeholder engagement and social performance implementation (including social investment initiatives) and effectiveness across the region. He / She will act as the main point of contact / liaison between each of the Business Units within the region and the Group External Affairs and Investors Relations & Communications functions on matters associated with external affairs and communications. The role will support external affairs resourcing and capacity building within business units and will act as the central point of contact for all external affairs issues associated with new country entry (where EA teams are not yet established). This position will interface closely with EHS Exploration & Appraisal and Development & Operations functions to ensure that issues associated with economic security environment or social risks and impacts are appropriately managed with key stakeholder groups. This position plays a key role in issues management enhancing and safeguarding the Company s reputation as it enters its next phase of growth. Responsibilities /Key Objectives: External Affairs (including Social Performance) Where necessary develop and implement the external affairs and social performance strategies for Tullow Oil so as to manage identified country / project risks and protect and promote the Company s reputation with key stakeholders such as the media local communities and government. Support the development of the social performance strategy (including social investment programmes) to address potential risks and impacts enhance Tullow Group s reputation and provide project management support in implementing social investment programmes across the Region. Cooperate closely with EHS to deliver environmental and social impact assessments & supporting management plans. Together with the business unit and country teams monitor the company s external operating environment within the region to identify emerging policy political and social issues and facilitate early planning and / or message development to address these. Maintain an awareness of events and programmed company activities in each operating region that may require planned external affairs activities and preparing briefings and regular reports to ensure that senior executives are informed and up to date (country reports corporate presentations monthly management reports). Communications Ensure that the development and delivery of key communications work streams are embedded in the plans for projects / E&A activities within the region. Ensure that all internal stakeholders both in Business Units and Group are fully informed and knowledgeable about progress of operations and projects within the region and implications for external stakeholder issues. Provide regular feedback to Regional External Affairs Investor Relations and Communications management in London on the impact of project plans with regards to key stakeholder issues. Assist the Business Unit corporate affairs teams or representatives in developing relevant communications to external and internal stakeholders. Assist in the development and execution of Corporate Communications responsibilities including drafting of releases and presentations for investor relations internal communications media partner/regulatory meetings and other external affairs events. Supports weekly and monthly reporting of projects within the region. Capacity Building Support Provide capacity building and mentoring support to the Business Unit corporate affairs and social performance teams / representatives. Active supports the training and development of in country teams. Financial Responsibility: Regional External Affairs budget and in country corporate affairs and social performance budgets as appropriate. or to apply for this vacancy.
