Network Security Specialist Cape Town R510k pa neg. Our client in Cape Town is looking for a Network Security Specialist for their Centre for High Performance Computing (CHPC). Their main objective is to create a significant computational infrastructure for South African research institutions to enable them to engage in computationally intensive research challenges that are globally competitive while still relevant to the South African context. It also aims to create critical mass in high-performance computing and computational sciences on a national scale through support of strategically directed research and human capital development. You will oversee the organisation s network security environment and will ultimately be responsible for developing and maintaining the organisation s network security architecture standards policies and guidelines. You will be responsible for internal and external security; compliance and governance; and training and support. Qualifications skills and experience: A Bachelor s degree in business or computer science with an emphasis in information technology or a minimum of eight to ten years of experience in computing and security including experience with Internet technology and Network security issues. Solid Linux administration will be advantage. Scripting in languages such as bash perl and pathon. Experience with packaging tools such as RPM. Cisco CCNA certification with three years experience. Should demonstrate initiative exercise good judgment exhibit strong profit orientation and have the ability to achieve results through others. Experience with disaster recovery planning testing auditing risk analysis business resumption planning contingency planning; TCP/IP firewalls VPNs and other security devices; as well as contract and vendor negotiation experience. Experience in security and compliance software from different vendors. Ability to interact positively and effectively with employees at all levels within the organisation as well as with vendors and external contractors. Ability to multi-task several complex tasks at one time. Clearly demonstrable project management skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Output-driven and deadlines-focused. Personal competencies in integrity flexibility/adaptability stress management judgement/problem-solving and results-/output-driven. Ability to look into the future security and compliance requirements of the enterprise. Key responsibilities: Conduct annual threat and vulnerability assessments. Develop and implement network security policy standards guidelines and procedures. Investigate security breaches. Develop initiate maintain and revise policies and procedures. Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk; and develop/implement corrective action plans. Define standards for security training and equipment costs. Define direction of in-house technical training seminars to improve overall employee awareness response time. Identify emerging information technologies to be assimilated integrated and introduced within the organisation which could significantly impact the organisation s compliance to mandated requirements. Prepare quarterly and annual security forecast reports. Work with outside consultants as appropriate for independent.
