Senior Java Developer (Job Number:131808) Location: South Africa:Western Cape:Bellville
Purpose Development of components for a J2EE (version 6 or higher) based project with large number of concurrent connections ensuring its scalability. The work contains a portion of support and refactoring of the existing back-end but mainly consist of new development to extend it for new functionality and add extra integration points. Key Responsibilities To assist in requirements analysis system design implementation and innovation focusing on optimal use of server applications. Support existing and develop new back-end functionality and components. Understand existing product and domain elements and work with architects to refine and implement new requirements. Refactor and improve the services to keep the product maintainable and agile to new requirements. Unit testing and participation in QA testing processes. Assist in trouble-shooting of J2EE / server applications. Documentation of code produced to ensure reusability and readability. Development work is implemented according to internal procedures and using relevant software management infrastructure. Work effectively in a team environment and follow/develop product software development processes and standards. Evaluate and improve application performance and high availability features. Assist in mentoring young developers. Requirements Qualifications and experience Tertiary qualification in Engineering or Computer Science preferred. At least 5 years relevant experience as a back-end developer as part of a team in a software development environment. 3 years J2EE development and experience using EJB3.1 Solid understanding and experience with OO design patterns. Experience in scaling systems to perform under high load Skills and competencies A good understanding of the SDLC process tools and techniques specifically as applied to software development methodology Experience with team development tools: source control build server. Ability to deliver production quality software by e.g. paying attention to detail do extensive unit testing and support quality testing phases Ability to work in an Agile team-based collaborative environment. Would be an advantage Previous experience in the main technologies we use would be a distinct advantage: JIRA ticketing system Jenkins (build server) Maven Vaaden Tapestry Webservices (SOAP) Owing to the number of applications that we receive we unfortunately cannot guarantee that we will respond to you directly.
