GIS Specialist: Project Manager

Employer: Emergence Human Capoital A well - established organisation based in the Free State is currently seeking a GIS Specialist to implement specific processes associated with the preparation, capturing, storing and maintaining of data. Role: Data Preparation, Capturing & Storage * Performs specific applications associated with the preparation; updating; and processing of data from hardcopy and digital sources for the Free State Human Settlements geographical area by: * Acquisition of General plans and township layouts from SG and other sources * Acquisition of relevant and related satellite imagery for the whole province, including Spot 6 imagery fom SANSA and other data vendors * Grow base data with more housing relevant datasets Interface of GIS with other systems * Coordinates and controls the tasks/ activities of personnel and allocates, and prioritizes outcomes by: * Establishing GIS needs and requirements i.e. data, hardware, personnel and process, and drive for acquisition of such and establish GIS and information management operational plan. * Set up a departmental portal for distributed access to GIS related information across the department and district offices. Data Maintenance * Performs specific applications with maintaining geographic information records and cadastral databases by: * Maintain appropriate Data storage on the departmental GIS server, and proper functioning of all GIS equipment at all times. * Creating and maintaining a comprehensive Human Settlements Geo-database and GIS layers with all relevant useful information Information Presentation, Manipulation And Mapping * Attends to the production of information in various forms (reports, maps) used in analysis, discussion and decision making processes by: * Produce and develop a map book of pipeline projects based on the proposed human settlements developments and new projects across the province and update this annually * Production of the GIS map book of all projects, programmes and other useful scenarios in the departmental housing programmes Information Management * Document and list of information typically requested by National Treasury; National Department of Human Settlements; Internal Free State Departmental users; and management, and prepare GIS based information and datasets to fulfil this need and respond to such requests, * Document, Catalogue and Update the Departmental GIS Data structure and metadata Qualifications and Experience: * Degree / Diploma in Geography, Development Planning or equivalent compensating experience. * Technical Diploma/ GIS Planning and Surveying - (NQF Level 5/6) * Computer literacy - Specific GIS System Applications Certificates. * 4 - 5 Years GIS mapping and database management experience. * Ideally within a built environment, development planning and management, spatial planning.
