Instrument Technician

Employ Africa   Instrument Technician   My client is looking to fill the following position. INSTRUMENT TECHNICIAN MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB The instrument technician will be responsible to maintain the optimum performance of equipment through scheduled maintenance and calibration of equipment. The instrument technician will also be responsible for troubleshooting and repair to malfunctioning equipment. He will be required to work with team members and cross functional groups to resolve maintenance issues improve equipment reliability and minimize equipment downtime. REPORTING STRUCTURE Reporting to the Regional Manager. RESPONSIBILITIES: COMMUNICATION AND CLIENT RELATIONSHIPS Accurate clear and presentable correspondence and certificates to clients colleagues and stakeholders. Limited Client interaction involving meeting attendance structured report-backs and punctual reporting. Service maintenance repairs calibration of all equipment. Support services to Occupational Health Ambient and Stack Sampling Departments includes maintenance and calibration of department equipment e.g. FTIR Stack Sampling equipment Minivol. Optimise resource allocation within the group to contribute to profitability. Research and development for new instruments and upgrades to existing equipment. SAFETY & SECURITY - PORTABLE ELECTRICAL TOOLS/EARTH LEAKAGE INSPECTOR Ensure that all portable electrical equipment used by the company is numbered and placed on a register. Inspect all equipment on a monthly basis and record findings in the appropriate register. Ensure that all unsafe equipment is repaired/reported to the responsible person. TRAINING Completion of in-house training in all methods that the employee is required to undertake specifically all maintenance and reporting tasks for air quality monitoring systems. GENERAL Adhere to all company Policies and Procedures. Encapsulate the vision mission and policies of the company in all business-related functions. Minimise the impact of business activities on the environment and participation in the company programs and policies to achieve the same. WORK ENVIRONMENT The work involves inter alia the assessment of hazards health impacts and general impacts. This frequently involves exposure to difficult work environments and the need for physical labour in order to conduct such assessments. It is vital that consultants be of good health and willing to access and enter such environments. It is the responsibility of the employee to bring to the company s attention any physical disability that might affect their potential to complete such work so that the company can make a decision on the advisability of such action. Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the company s management system. Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by direct line manager. SPECIFIC AUTHORITIES: Service maintenance repairs calibration of all lab equipment. Ensure that all portable electrical equipment used by the company is numbered and placed on a register. Ensure that all unsafe equipment is repaired/reported to the responsible person. Calibration of gas and particulate analysers. Ordering and quality control of new equipment. Cease the use of any equipment that may be deemed to constitute a safety hazard or enter hazardous environments without the necessary knowledge and protection and report the situation to higher authority to take action. Cease to carry on with work that may affect the quality (integrity) of services and report the situation to higher authority to take action. Initiate a formal improvement request when a deviation of the system occurs possible improvements are identified or when nonconformity is identified. QUALIFICATIONS: Education The position requires a degree/diploma from a recognised tertiary education facility in the field of electronic engineering or demonstrable equivalent. Experience A minimum of 2 years experience in the field would be required. Understanding organizational processes and the core business process capabilities. Strong technical mathematical and analytical skills. Ability to work and take directions from written and verbal instructions. Possess good communication negotiation and interpersonal skills. Ability to interact with all levels of management suppliers and clients. Acts quickly and decisively able to make tough calls. Code 08 driver s licence. Competencies Professional and ethical behavior. Analytical and interpretive ability. Attention to detail. Ability to work under pressure. Ability to deliver high quality outputs timeously. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. MAIN OUTPUTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THIS POSITION - (Please provide a short description under each heading/output) Key Functional Outputs 1. Auditing Best Practices Analyse the complexity of the organisational landscape (organisational and departmental goals and objectives processes technology governance controls and people) to identify audit requirements and priorities Prepare a well-defined Internal Audit approach process procedure and techniques for complex and specialised financial and operational audits in line with the Mine business planning cycle and requirements Develop a Risk Assessment Framework to be able to effectively categorise audit findings Ensure that appropriate governance mechanisms are in place in line with general accepted auditing norms and practices to manage and monitor internal audit activities within the Mine Ensure that a follow-up process is in place to validate resolution of issues and implementation of improvement actions 2. Internal Audit Plan/ Programme Liaise with business stakeholders to plan audits and explain audit requirements Develop the planning memo and internal audit plan/ programme Submit for review and approval 3. Executed Audits Liaise with internal stakeholders and execute audits of assigned functions including financial operational and information technology audits Understand and document the internal control environment of Mine (processes technology governance mechanisms and people) Audit the efficiency and effectiveness of organisational processes across the Mine Value Chain 4. Audit Findings and Recommendations Determine the adequacy of Mine s internal control environment (processes technology governance mechanisms and people) to achieve organisational and departmental goals and objectives Liaise with senior business stakeholders on the interpretation of findings Prepare the draft audit report reflecting an overview of the findings conclusion regarding the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls financial and/ or operational risks and opportunities and recommendations for enhancing internal controls and operational efficiencies Prepare presentations of internal audit findings and recommendations to senior management and Head Office Submit for review and approval Key Management Outputs 1. Safety Health & Environment Compliance Implement safety awareness and reinforce safe working practices Monitor area for potential risks and take appropriate action to prevent and manage risks Drive compliance to Health Safety & Environment and environmental licensing & permitting requirements by implementing appropriate practices standards and procedures Proactively recommend improvements on safety policies 2. Teamwork Provide on-the-job coaching with new team members regarding Audit plans processes policies procedures and performance standards Actively contribute toward aligning employees with the departmental goals and objectives Collaborate with various levels of internal stakeholders to facilitate ownership and accountability for audits audit findings and action plans Stand in for the Finance Superintendent during his/her absence and ensure effective handover upon his/her return 3.
