Buying Manager

DUTIES: Purpose of the role: Responsible to manage direct inspire and execute the textiles merchandise buying function through the selection of commercially viable product ranges that will consistently appeal to and grow our customer base and the value of their responses profitably. Key Performance Areas : Financial management: Ensure the business plan and targets for the department are met. Manage profitability in terms of sales growth markdowns margins expense and stock turn. Responsible for signing off selling price margin and quantity on buyers range plan. Control and manage buying division s budgets. Manage the product development budget. Strategy management: Participate in the strategic planning and review processes at management level. Drive and influence strategy across the department and ensure effective implementation. Identify and investigate new business opportunities and propose ideas that enable the business to reposition itself ahead of our competitors. Product offer management: Responsible and accountable for overall running and performance of textiles buying division. Manage the buying team in their creation and delivery of profitable and commercial ranges. Produce a quarterly presentation to drive new direction on seasonal themes and trends. Plan and select the range type and quantity of products according to analysis business plan and customer demand. Presents merchandise at key reviews and meetings in a knowledgeable confident and professional manner. Ensure range is balanced across all variables and lifestyles e.g. contemporary vs traditional. Ensure balanced range across newness and best-selling formulas. Ensure all product meets required quality standards and that these quality requirements are effectively communicated to suppliers. Policy management: Review and update pricing and terms policies in compliance with internal guidelines and external regulations. Planning analyses and reporting. Weekly and monthly analysis as per reporting and trend meetings. Write reports and sales forecasts whilst analysing sales figures. Critically appraise past successes and failures through analysis - highlighting risks and opportunities. Demonstrate a trader approach in evaluating and taking advantage of opportunities. Review each month s sales stock and markdowns and identify OTB opportunities. Monitor all orders due on a weekly basis to make contingency plans if challenges were to arise. Prepare actualize and monitor all planning documentation to be able to make continuous informed decisions. Drive creativity and innovation within product ranges Inspire creativity and innovation within the buying division. Keep abreast of future trends (using internal and external resources) and build into product ranges. Demonstrate a lateral and innovative approach to all aspects of products combining creative flair with commercial viability. Ensure ranges display a sense of style and attention to detail. Continuously strive for the development of uniqueness in product offerings. Achieve technical application of product Builds a focused and effective supplier base by finding new suppliers and maintaining beneficial relationships with current suppliers. Provide detailed and clear briefs to suppliers marketing etc. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the manufacturing process e.g. lead times costing etc. Demonstrates a sound technical understanding of product and apply this to visualise the end product in production and style. Effectively utilise systems and process. Effectively utilise the merchandise buying calendar to plan and prioritise work flow. Review and implement effective buying processes to increase efficiencies across division. Display sound trader instinct Keep up to date on local and international retail trends and anticipate changes. Produce review of overseas catalogues and web sites and present findings and recommendations quarterly. Identify competitors and monitor their activities closely. Conduct regular store visits in order to compile comparative shop reports. Keep abreast of the impact of economic trends affecting retail industry and applies these in decision making Ensure the appropriate testing of concepts and products. Display sound reasoning/influencing skills. Negotiate effectively internally (colleagues management) and externally (suppliers) to optimise area performance. Use effective presentation skills to represent area and influence decision making whilst integrating key players into a forum which encourages debate. Working with the CTO and COO you will be responsible for the bulk of technical planning and development of the web application. You will also work with the rest of the development team at a tactical level in conjunction with the CTO for overall development direction. DUTIES: Assist with delivering technical planning elements for the web application with the CTO. Advise and assist on the overall development strategy with the CTO. Deliver front-end and back-end development of the web application. Help to organise tactical direction for the rest of the development team. Help to organise and run regular tactical level development meetings and scheduling in line with a chosen methodology e.g. Scrum with the COO. Assist with organising and maintaining the various development environments with the IT provider. Assist with creating and running automated testing maintenance and bug-resolution processes.
